During concerts I choose at least one piece as the subject of aural/oral program notes (known as ‘demo excerpts’ to my ensembles). We present excerpts, many modified or ‘re-composed’ from their original version, so audiences experience an abridged version of what we work through in rehearsal. Audience members regularly report this vastly improves their appreciation of the music.
